About Peru amazon
The Amazon region, the planet’s greatest biodiversity hotspot, covers more than 2.9 million square miles, that’s more than thirty times the size of the UK. The Amazon river is 4,000 miles long (6,400 km), from its source high in the Peruvian Andes. It is the equivalent of the distance from New York City to Rome.
In terms of river trips, there’s everything from luxury cruisers out from Iquitos city, and in recent years, lodges have sprung up all over the Amazon, especially around Puerto Maldonado - Tambopata, many of them in remote areas. The so-called headwaters of the Amazon in Peru have become especially popular with birdwatchers and butterfly-seekers.

Best time to visit the peruvian amazon
Peru's Amazon enjoys the same climate as most South American tropical rainforests. Temperatures stay constant throughout the year, averaging 26°C or 80 F. Humidity is high all year-long, with the lowest percentages, around 80 percent humidity, in the dry season. In the rainy season, humidity is often 100 percent. The dry season, which lasts from mid of May to mid-September, is the best time to visit if you want to trek or spend long days exploring because rain is less frequent. During the rainy season, on the other hand, it rains heavily and almost daily, making the soil slippery and difficult to navigate. However, this is no obstacle for visiting our jungle, we have beautiful lodges where you will have all the comforts at your fingertips. Three days is the minimum essential for an adventure of your life in the Peruvian jungle.

Is the food in the Peruvian amazon tasty?
In the Amazon jungle of Peru, there are plentiful fruits such as papayas, maracuya or passion fruit, chirimoya or custard apple and mangoes among others and they are part of the everyday meals of the population. Bananas are a staple food, they accompany almost every dish in many different ways. They are eaten fried, grilled, boiled, mashed and raw.
The Amazon Rivers of Peru provide plenty of fresh water fish; those that are part of the local cuisine are paiche, sabalo, bagre, palometa and even piranha among others. They are prepared in many dishes including soups and stews. Peruvian law now prohibits the hunt of river turtles and black caymans but they were once a delicacy in Peruvian Amazon cuisine.
