  1. Day 1 Sacred trail to Machu Picchu

    Early in the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel for the transfer to Ollantaytambo train station. A unique train ride surrounded by mountains and accompanied by one of the tributaries of the Amazon River: river ”Urubamba”. The landscape changes constantly in a one- hour ride where your guide will show you and teach you about the flora and fauna of the place between the mountain range and the high jungle. He will also show you the Inca roads that lead to the city of Machu Picchu and another ten cities that are located along these pedestrian roads called ”Qapaq Ñan” or Royal Road. Through one of the windows of the train he will show you archeological places that are located throughout the trip such as: LlaqtaPata, Salapunku, Qoriwayrachina, Qénte, Torontoy, Choquesuysuy, Wiñaywayna among others that are camouflaged in the mountains.

    At kilometer 104, location of the archaeological zone of Chachabamba, you will get off the train with your guide to start the Inca trail that leads to the citadel of Machu Picchu, an ancient road that was discovered in the decade of 70’s. You will cross the Vilcanota river by a suspension bridge, and will begin the mountain ascent of about 30 ° of inclination. You will visit the fortress of Wiñaywayna and see the terraces of Intipata, all by a stone route surrounded by precipices, beautiful vegetation and waterfalls. Have lunch outdoors. After about 5 hours of walking, you will arrive to see the sunset at the Inti Punku or Sun Gate. From here you will also have a magnificent view of the citadel of Machu Picchu.

    From the Sun Gate you will descend to take the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes.

    Levels over the sea: Chachabamba 2,100 masl; Wiñaywayna 2,670 masl; Inti Punku 2,700 masl, Machu Picchu 2,400 masl; Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes) 2,050 masl.

  2. Day 2 Machu Picchu

    In the morning you will board the bus that will take you to the citadel of Machu Picchu. In only 25 minutes you will ascend more than 400 meters of height through a zig-zag route surrounded by trees and vegetation typical of the high jungle.

    Tour of the citadel of Machu Picchu. Your expert guide will take you to visit the most important temples and palaces in a three-hour tour. You will go up to the House of the Guardian, the perfect place for a panoramic view of the citadel, recognizing the two great areas of Machu Picchu: the agricultural zone and the urban zone. You will visit the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Plaza with its three temples, the Intiwatana or solar clock, the Royal Palace, the Sacred Rock, the Mortars and the Temple of the Condor among many other places of interest in this sacred city.

    Lunch (on your own).

    In the afternoon you will take the return train to the city of Cusco. During the trip, you can enjoy the scenery and relax, or maybe ask yourself and try to explain how people without tools of iron and other precision for engineering works, could build such a gigantic metropolis on the heights of the Andes defying gravity to the present …

    Our mobility will be waiting for us at Ollantaytambo train station to take you to the city of Cusco.

MACHU PICCHU:

Inkaterra Machupicchu Pueblo hotel.- It offers spacious rooms with tiled floors and a seating area, as well as massage sessions. The price of accommodation includes buffet breakfast and dinner à la carte. Inkaterra’s rooms are elegantly decorated with Andean tapestries and include cotton bedding, alpaca blankets and four-poster beds. Some rooms also have Wi-Fi connection, fireplace, marble sink or private pool. The restaurant overlooks Vilcanota River and serves Andean cuisine. The staff of Inkaterra Machu Picchu organizes walking tours in the surroundings. The hotel facilities include a lounge with a library and a gift shop.


Terraza de Luna.- The hotel is 400 meters from the thermal baths of Machu Picchu, offers bar service, terrace and views of the city. The accommodation has a restaurant, 24-hour reception, room service and free Wi-Fi. It features a tourist information desk, luggage storage and a currency exchange service. All hotel rooms are equipped with a flat-screen satellite TV, kitchen and dining area. The rooms are equipped with wardrobe and private bathroom. A buffet breakfast is served every morning.


Tierra Viva MachuPicchu.- The hotel features stunning views of the surrounding hills. It is a 5-minute walk from the bus station and has comfortable and quiet rooms with air conditioning. It offers a panoramic solarium and free Wi-Fi access throughout. The rooms are very quiet and equipped with private cable TV, minibar and private bathroom with shower. Some offer views of the hills. Cusco train station is a 10-minute walk away.

You should take sunscreen, insect repellent, sunhat, good boots or trekking shoes, raincoat. Optional: Trekking pole, sunglasses, shorts.

You can choose from several options, from a buffet in the only hotel near the citadel of Machu Picchu, to the dozens of restaurants located in the town of Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo).
